‘Growth’ describes the ride in almost every aspect: personal, professionally, as a team and as a company.

5 years. 5 stories. // Featuring: Nikolas Fromm, Sales Team Lead, East, Germany

To kick off our anniversary blog series, we sat down with Nikolas Fromm, one of the early team members who helped shape Wolt’s presence in Germany. From day one, he’s been part of the journey to grow Wolt into a household name.

Q: How did your journey with Wolt in Germany begin, and what motivated you to join the team?

Wolt reached out to me in February 2020. Back then, there was only one major player in the market, and I saw an incredible chance to challenge the monopoly and be part of building something new from day one. Everyone I spoke with at Wolt was so friendly, smart, and humble — joining felt like a no-brainer.

Q: What has been your most memorable moment working at Wolt over the past 5 years?

There are too many to count, but one that stands out is from the first lockdown in Germany, right after our launch. Restaurants depended on delivery and takeaway to survive, and our small team worked day and night to onboard as many venues as possible. I even jumped on a bike to deliver orders myself when needed. Seeing Wolt bags everywhere in my neighborhood shortly after was incredibly rewarding.

Q: In your eyes, how has Wolt in Germany evolved since the beginning?

In almost every way imaginable. We went from a single-digit team to over 1,000 employees, expanding from restaurants to an “app for everything.” But what hasn’t changed is the ambitious, humble team spirit that makes Wolt such a great place to grow and have fun.

Q: What was the biggest challenge you’ve faced?

Transitioning from Sales Manager to Team Lead was tough. I had to learn quickly, double the team within months, and lean on strong mentors and colleagues. It was challenging, but it shaped me as a leader.

Q: How has Wolt impacted your personal and professional life?

I’ve learned more here than I could have anywhere else — from ownership and leadership to building friendships that will last a lifetime.

Q: If you had to describe the past 5 years in one word?

Growth. Personally, professionally, as a team, and as a company.

Q: What’s your hope for the next 5 years of Wolt in Germany?

That we’ll be the #1 delivery platform in every neighborhood.

Q: And your favorite order on Wolt?

Cheeseburgers. Not the healthiest, but definitely the best soul food — and Berlin has endless great options.

Thank you, Nikolas, for sharing your journey and reflections from the early days of Wolt in Germany.

Stay tuned for the next story in our series, where we’ll hear from Rajesh Singh about building product for couriers and what “transformation” means to him.
