A Decade Delivered: Expanding from burgers to (almost) everything and supporting €19 billion in economic activity along the way
Wolt is officially a decade old and what a ride it’s been! What started as a small restaurant delivery service, set up by six co-founders in Helsinki back in 2014, has now grown into a global platform, serving customers, supporting local businesses and creating earning opportunities across 1,000 cities and 28 countries. And we’re proud of what we’ve achieved together: Wolt has supported EUR 19 billion in economic activity across our markets, helped 150,000 merchants earn EUR 15 billion and provided EUR 3 billion in earnings for more than 450,000 couriers.
Wolt isn’t just about bringing joy and simplicity to our customers’ everyday lives (although that’s of course a big part), we’re also about supporting local neighborhoods. With more than EUR 15 billion in sales generated for local merchants and EUR 3 billion in earnings for over 450,000 couriers, Wolt has become a lifeline for small businesses and individuals alike. We’re proud to have helped local high streets thrive, even during challenging times like the pandemic, and empowered people to be their own boss and earn flexible and supplementary income.
Over the years, Wolt has also grown far beyond delivering restaurant food. Sure, we’ve delivered over 130 million burgers (people really do love burgers) but now you can get (almost) everything delivered from groceries to flowers, pet food and even prescriptions through the platform. Non-restaurant orders make up about 20 percent of our business today, with grocery sales alone topping EUR 1 billion annually. Local businesses aren’t just surviving - they’re thriving, thanks to platforms like Wolt that connect them to their communities.
And let’s not forget our Wolt+ membership programme which allows customers to save through zero delivery fees & exclusive discounts and big affordability campaigns. Launched in 2021, we’ve now reached 1 million subscribers and saved customers over EUR 200 million.
We’ve had our fair share of fun moments too, like the time a courier traveled 4,000km across seven countries to deliver a Georgian flag to the Euro 2024 football team. Or that one big order of iPhones and laptops totalling EUR 8,559 - someone really wanted to get working fast!
As we look to the future, we’re certainly not slowing down. We want to continue bringing more joy, simplicity and earnings to the neighborhoods of the world. Thank you especially to our team of wonderful people across Wolt and DoorDash, our partners and customers. You are the reason we continue to work on our products and services every day.
Take a look at Wolt’s “A Decade Delivered” report which highlights the impact we’ve made together with our customers and partners in the cities we serve across the world.
