> Platforms like Wolt help small businesses stay competitive by providing tools to get online, reach new customers, and drive additional sales.
> “We make it easy for people to buy from the nearby businesses, instead of purchasing the same items from warehouses hundreds of kilometres away. Every local order keeps money in the community, supports small businesses, and helps cities thrive,” says Tuomas Hurmerinta, Global Head of Merchant Business.
HELSINKI, JUNE 25 – Technology company Wolt is today releasing a new global report highlighting the key role of digital platforms in driving growth for small businesses and the communities they support.
The report is based on a survey of more than 7,000 consumers and merchants across 23 countries in Europe and Asia, conducted in partnership with leading research firms Copenhagen Economics and Taloustutkimus, and Wolt's own analysis of global data from across the company’s operating markets.
It shows platforms are helping to level the playing field for small and medium-sized businesses by getting them online and enabling last-mile delivery. This, in turn, helps them reach more customers and increase sales, with over €5Bn in total Wolt-generated sales for merchants across all operating markets in 2024.*
Tuomas Hurmerinta, Global Head of Wolt’s Merchant Business, said: “Our goal is to help local businesses thrive. As people shift to buy more and more online, platforms like Wolt play a crucial role in helping them stay competitive and match changing customer expectations. We’re proud of the work we’ve been able to do so far across 30+ markets, but we’re far from being done, and are constantly looking into new ways to be helpful.”
Platforms are becoming a regular part of daily life, as people look for quick and easy ways to shop locally for everything from food and pet supplies to health, beauty, and electronics, with an estimated 8.5 billion minutes saved globally in 2024* by customers who opt for delivery over cooking, allowing them to spend more time on what matters most.
Hurmerinta added: “We make it easy for people to buy from nearby businesses, instead of purchasing the same items from warehouses hundreds of kilometres away. Every local order keeps money in the community, supports small businesses, and helps cities thrive.”
The full report, available at www.localcommerceinsights.com, combines insights from Wolt's own analysis of global data from across the company’s operating markets with results from large-scale surveys in 23 markets. The surveys were carried out in partnership with Copenhagen Economics and Taloustutkimus between December 2024 and May 2025, and received more than 7,000 responses – from 2413 merchants and 4624 customers.
