Teaming Up for a Better Food Future: Wolt Partners with EIT Food and the European Federation of Food Banks
Food is at the heart of everything we do – it brings us together, fuels our bodies, and shapes cultures around the world. Whether it’s a home-cooked meal, a quick snack, or a feast with friends, food is more than just something we eat; it’s an experience. But beyond our plates, food has a profound impact on the world around us. It connects farmers, businesses, and entire communities, while also playing a critical role when we think about the environment, the economy, and people in need. Every bite we take is part of a much bigger picture.
With more people to feed, new food trends emerging, and growing urgency around sustainability and food security, the choices we make today matter more than ever. Thankfully, there are exciting ideas, impactful organizations, and forward-thinking innovations driving progress in this space. At Wolt, we want to be part of that momentum. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce two new partnerships focused on building a better, more sustainable, and more equitable food system for everyone.
First, we’re teaming up with EIT Food, an organization co-funded by the European Union and dedicated to transforming our food system. Together, we’ll explore ways to reduce food waste, promote, explore and introduce sustainable packaging options throughout our ecosystem. Founded in 2016, EIT Food is Europe’s leading food innovation initiative, bringing together stakeholders across the food value chain — from startups and research centers to corporates and consumers — to drive innovation, education, and change toward a healthier, more sustainable food future.
This is an important step forward for Wolt and the broader ecosystem, said Jamieson Saab, Global Head of Sustainability at Wolt. Sustainability has always been a core part of our strategy, particularly when it comes to reducing the environmental impact of the meals we deliver. We’re excited about our partnership with EIT to help us navigate this space and make real progress. We’re confident they’ll bring the same value to this new area of our work as we’ve experienced with their sister organization EIT Urban Mobility.
EIT Food echoed the sentiment: We support projects, people, and organizations that align with our mission to create positive impact – fast and at scale. By bringing together stakeholders from across the food system, we foster collaboration, innovation, and real solutions that drive meaningful change. Together with Wolt, we aim to do just that.
At the same time, we’re proud to launch a new partnership with the European Federation of Food Banks (FEBA) – a non-profit organization supporting a network of over 30 national food banks across Europe. Their mission? To collect and redistribute surplus food to people in need, while promoting long-term solutions to hunger and poverty.
In many of our markets, Wolt has already taken steps to minimize food waste and support local food banks. With FEBA’s experience and reach, we’re taking these efforts to the next level — exploring ideas like a virtual food bank concept, enhancing emergency preparedness planning, and refining the food waste processes at our Wolt Markets.
Supporting local food banks is a natural fit for Wolt, said Saab. While many of our users enjoy the convenience of ordering food online every day, there are countless families struggling to make ends meet. Partnering with FEBA allows us to leverage our technology for good — enabling certified food banks to receive support quickly and effectively, while also giving our customers the opportunity to ‘order a little good’ alongside their meals.
Today, nearly 38 million people in the EU face moderate to severe food insecurity. FEBA and its member organizations reach over 12 million of the most vulnerable each year. Through this partnership, we aim to make a meaningful dent in that number — not through charity alone, but by helping build smarter, more resilient food systems that work for everyone.
As we move forward with these partnerships, we’re guided by one simple belief: food can and should be a force for good. Whether it’s reducing waste, innovating how we package and deliver meals, or helping ensure that no one goes hungry, we’re excited to be working alongside organizations who share our vision of a better food future.
