Helsinki, Finland – 9 September 2025 – This World EV Day, Wolt is proud to announce significant progress in its journey toward more sustainable last-mile delivery. In the past 12 months (July 2024-July 2025), 23% of all Wolt deliveries across the globe have been made using clean vehicles – defined as either electric vehicles or bicycles.
This represents an 8% year-on-year increase, as more courier partners switch to cleaner modes of transport across Wolt’s 30+ markets.
- Austria, where more than 80% of deliveries were clean in the past year
- Germany, with 66% of deliveries now made via clean vehicles
- Hungary, Croatia and Poland, each with more than 30% of deliveries completed on clean vehicles this year
Clean deliveries are not just essential for us to meet our climate commitments – they directly contribute to our mission to make cities better, said Jamie Saab, Wolt’s Global Head of Sustainability. This is about reducing air pollution, noise, and congestion — but also about making electric vehicles accessible and affordable for anyone doing deliveries.
Too many couriers want to switch but face barriers like high upfront costs and financing challenges. We’re working to break down those barriers so that choosing a zero-emission vehicle becomes the standard rather than the exception. And beyond sustainability, switching to e-bikes and e-mopeds just makes business sense: in many of our markets, two-wheelers are the most efficient way to serve merchants and customers in busy city centers.
Supporting couriers through the Better Cities FundWolt’s Better Cities Fund - a EUR 2.25 million grant fund to support courier EV transitions and launched in 2024 - provides financial support and access to specially designed e-bikes and electric mopeds for courier partners. Electrification is good for the environment and our business — couriers on e-bikes and e-mopeds are often more efficient, which helps them increase their earnings.
While this program was initially launched as a pilot, so far, many couriers have participated directly by the fund across eight countries, and the demand we are seeing continues to outpace the supply, proving that courier partners believe in what we’re doing and want to do their part. Building on the positive resonance and traction the program has received so far, we are eager to deepen our engagement with municipalities and work together towards creating thriving and liveable cities.

But our climate action doesn’t stop only at pilots. Thanks to additional improvements we have made to our app, we’ve been able to further reduce our emissions per delivery by 8% the last 12 months (July 2024-July 2025), and up to 50% in some countries. Courier emissions account for almost 80% of our total carbon footprint each year, making this not only the most pressing, but also the most difficult area to tackle. We’re tremendously proud of these results that are helping us prove out that the road to net zero is possible and that we’re on the right track.
