Helsinki, 16 January 2026 - Wolt, the technology company known for its local commerce platform, has announced its biggest consumer app update to date. The redesigned app marks the next step in Wolt’s evolution into a multi-vertical commerce platform; giving consumers a faster way to discover and shop across categories - from groceries and pharmacy to beauty, electronics and more - and offering a broader range of local merchants a new channel to grow their online sales.
Over the past decade, Wolt has grown from a restaurant delivery startup into a technology platform that has fulfilled more than 700 million consumer orders across over 30 countries, and generated over €15 billion in sales for local merchants.* Today, non-restaurant categories already account for more than 20% of all orders*, a figure that continues to rise.
“As our selection has expanded beyond restaurants into new categories, we needed to evolve the app not only to match the pace of the company’s growth, but also to make it easier for customers to buy almost anything they need on Wolt. Many customers haven’t been aware of the wide range of products and venues already available on Wolt, which is a missed opportunity for customers and merchants alike. This update is a big step in fixing that - and reimagining how the customer can find what they need on Wolt; be it milk and bananas, painkillers, pet food, baby toys, shampoo or umbrellas. We’ve made discovery faster, smarter and more intuitive - built on insights into how people browse, search and shop locally today,” said Julia Niemann, Director of Product Management, Consumer Product.
As shopping habits evolve, Wolt is building an experience that feels effortless for consumers and opens new growth opportunities for local merchants in an increasingly digital world.
“Customer needs have always guided how we design and build at Wolt. Local commerce is changing fast – people want to shop across categories with the same ease as ordering food, and this update makes that possible while opening new opportunities for merchants,” Niemann continued. “We’re building the infrastructure for how people will interact with their city in the future.”
Early results show that users are finding products faster and discovering more stores than before. Engagement across non-restaurant categories has risen significantly, reflecting a double-digit increase in cross-category discovery and clear improvements in search speed and relevance.
Floating Search & Browse Button: A single entry point at the bottom of your screen that takes you to almost any service around you: restaurants, groceries, beauty, electronics, or package delivery**.
Universal Search: Search results are grouped by item. Type protein and Wolt instantly understands - you will see protein powder from Health & Beauty stores, protein bars from Groceries, and high-protein meals from Restaurants.
Product-First Browsing: No more store-hopping: Start with products instead of stores. Find headphones across retailers, or compare moisturizers by scrolling through options from pharmacies, supermarkets, and beauty brands.
Visual Refresh and Modular Design: Rounded forms, vibrant colors, and adaptive motion create a modern, scalable interface that enables Wolt to highlight more products and support evolving shopping experiences as the platform expands.
Products Surfaced In Context: Products now appear across categories, not just within one store. This gives merchants more visibility across the app - reaching more customers and driving more sales.
Smarter Journeys: By reorganizing discovery around products, Wolt helps merchants connect with customers earlier in their decision-making, driving exposure and engagement.
Design That Scales: The visual refresh isn’t just about a new look, it’s a foundation for growth. The updated design gives Wolt the flexibility to introduce new categories, highlight more products, and support evolving shopping experiences. It’s built to adapt as our offering continues to expand.
Together, these updates mark the next step in Wolt’s ongoing evolution - from food delivery to a complete local commerce platform. The new design also lays the groundwork for future innovations, allowing Wolt to expand into new categories and introduce smarter discovery features over time.
