HELSINKI, JULY 13: Wolt today launches Split Payments for Group Orders, making it easier to order together from restaurants without one person having to pay for everything upfront. Following successful initial rollouts in Israel, Finland and Germany, the feature is now expanding to 13 additional markets: Cyprus, Czechia, Malta, Austria, Norway, Sweden, Kosovo, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Luxembourg, Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia.

Group orders have long been one of the easiest ways to order together with friends, family and colleagues. Until now, however, one person had to pay for the entire order and collect money from everyone afterwards. With Split Payments, everyone can simply pay for their own items from restaurants directly in the Wolt app.

The feature is designed for everyday occasions such as office lunches, student gatherings, family dinners and nights in with friends. In workplace orders, people can also use eligible lunch benefits, including Wolt Benefits, when paying for their share.

Shared costs, such as service and delivery fees, are automatically divided between the group. If the person creating the order has an active Wolt+ membership, the group can also benefit from eligible Wolt+ benefits, including free or discounted delivery.

For many people, having to collect money afterwards is one of the biggest hassles of ordering together. Internal data shows it is also one of the main reasons people abandon group orders before completing them.

Rounak Kakwani, Product Manager Wolt, said:

"Food has always been a way for people to come together, but ordering together hasn't always been as simple as it should be. Too often, one person ends up managing the bill. Split Payments removes that friction, so people can focus on spending time together rather than figuring out who owes what afterwards."

How it works

  1. One person chooses a restaurant, selects “Order together” and then “Everyone pays for themselves.”

2. The host shares an invite link or QR code with the group. Service and delivery fees are automatically split across the group. If the host has Wolt+, eligible benefits may also apply to the order.

3. Participants join the order, add their own items and pay for their share directly in the Wolt app.

4. Once everyone is ready, the host confirms the order and it's delivered to one shared location. Each participant receives their own payment confirmation and can see their purchase in their order history.

The launch builds on a series of features designed to make everyday ordering more convenient, including Gifting, which allows customers to send orders with a personal message; Double Order, which enables ordering from two venues in a single delivery; and Scheduled Orders, which lets customers plan deliveries in advance.
