Wolt launches two new countries - “We believe there is a lot of demand for us in Iceland and Austria”
Wolt, the Finland-based technology company, begins operations in two new locations: Iceland and Austria. Wolt´s online platform launched in both of the countries at the beginning of May, and on the app customers can easily discover and order restaurant food and other local goods such as groceries, flowers, electronics and gifts. These new market expansions are Wolt´s first country launches since 2020.
Wolts Expansion Director Tony Honkanen says that the company is looking into new markets with a positive mindset.
“Expanding into new markets is a good and healthy way to grow business. Wolts strengths, such as a seamlessly working app and a versatile selection, have been carrying us already in 23 countries. We have been welcomed with open arms, and we believe that there is a lot of demand for us in both countries.”
In both of the countries operations start first in the capital cities, Reykjavik and Vienna, but the company is open for expansion outside of the capital region after that.
Honkanen believes that operations will go off with a bang in Austria and Iceland. “Iceland is a relatively small country, but there is a lot of purchasing power, and a huge number of tourists visit the country every year. A lot of small island countries, such as Malta and Cyprus, have turned out to be a very active market and there is yet no competition in Iceland. Austria on the other hand is bigger and there is some competition; however we believe that we can offer a very positive customer experience and a versatile selection also in other categories than restaurant food.”
