> Valentine’s Day flower sales are booming on Wolt – over one million euros generated in sales for local flower shops
> The most purchased categories in Flower Shops are classic cut flowers and bouquets, with roses and tulips taking the top spots as the flowers screaming ‘I love you’
FEBRUARY 14 – We’re taking a look at some of the most popular Valentine’s Day trends from 2023 to see how the day of love and friendship is celebrated across our Wolt countries. While we see explosive growth for flowers every year, there are a few surprises that spring up, particularly in Norway!
Flowers are the go-to gift on Valentine’s Day. It's no surprise that the demand for flower deliveries surges by over 3000% compared to an average day. Last year, we broke records, selling over 25,000 flowers, generating over one million euros for local flower shops.
In Finland, the ritual of flower-giving starts early, with a significant number of orders placed between 5–7 am. However, some romantics wait until the eleventh hour, placing orders as late as 11 pm. But hey, we don’t judge – that’s what we’re here for!
Flowers dominate the best-selling charts on Valentine’s but chocolate is a close second – as many as every third basket has chocolate in it on the special day. You know the saying: a way to someone’s heart is through their stomach. Last year in Latvia, someone took this very seriously and placed a single order of 450 chocolate truffles.
But in Norway, it’s not necessarily chocolate that wins over the hearts of everyone. In a survey this year, we found out that Norwegian men would love to be gifted pizza rather than flowers.
Other sweet treats like cookies, cupcakes and buns are also popular in Valentine’s Day celebrations.
Valentine's Day isn't just about expressing love for others; it's also an opportunity for self-celebration and indulgence. In Hungary for example, sex toys are ordered three times more than on a normal day!
Some popular items ordered on Valentine’s Day include intimacy playing cards and games, lube, and masturbators.
In the Nordic and Baltic countries, Valentine’s Day is a day of friendship – the day is even called Friend’s Day. Giving out cards to your friends is a popular way to remember those close to you. As a celebration of that, our friends in the Baltics will get a little surprise on their Wolt Market orders placed on February 14th.
