Wolt signs landmark CBA for independent couriers with S.A.D.T.H. Union in Greece

Historic agreement proves that flexibility and protections can exist together in a custom-fit approach

May 22, 2025 - Wolt, the technology company and local commerce platform, has signed a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the Thessaloniki Self-Employed Delivery Workers Union (S.A.D.T.H.), in Greece. This historic agreement is the first-ever between a delivery platform and an independent courier union in the country.

Under this new model, Wolt couriers can have protections and representation without being forced into a rigid employment structure. With most Wolt couriers working on average 8 hours per week globally, this agreement reflects what couriers want: the freedom and flexibility to choose when, where and how they work while having access to protections.

The CBA includes:

  • A guaranteed minimum fee of €9.30/hour for estimated active delivery time on the platform.
  • A consultation mechanism aiming to ensure the availability of tasks for active couriers.
  • Provisions for transparency in task allocation, health and safety.
  • Collaborative problem-solving mechanisms.

President of S.A.D.T.H., Theodoros Skerletis, said:
"The agreement represents a historic and pioneering development, both in Greece and internationally. This lays the foundation for the future, since both sides have committed to working in good faith towards the continuous improvement of their cooperation’s terms and conditions."

Samuel Laurinkari, Vice President and Head of International Public Policy & Sustainability, Wolt: “S.A.D.T.H. truly listened to what couriers want, and today shows what’s possible when we build solutions together. We’re proud to support a future for platform work that recognizes what couriers want most: flexibility and freedom coupled with suitable protections.”

As EU countries prepare to implement the Platform Work Directive (PWD), this CBA offers a clear example of how flexibility and protections can go hand in hand. It is the right solution for Greece, a strategic milestone for Wolt, and one way that countries can seek custom-fit approaches that protect and strengthen independent work.

Employment lawyer and Mediator I. Karouzos commented: “This collective agreement was signed following a systematic and sincere negotiation between the two parties — Wolt and its partner workers — with the support of the high-level mediation services of OMED, which ensured and facilitated meaningful dialogue between them. It is the first agreement of its kind in Greece and has the potential to serve as an example for similar agreements in the future, as it marks a strong and deeply meaningful beginning that serves the interests of all involved.”
